Excerpt from “PRE CIRCUS-CIRCUS”

Rock and Roll Meltdown: The Circus Nightclub Story 1979-1983 by Rick Bandazian

Excerpt from “PRE CIRCUS-CIRCUS”:

It would probably be more interesting if I said I grew up in “the
hood,” but that wouldn’t be true. The town of Glen Rock, New
Jersey was far from it, but not geographically or socioeconomically.
Glen Rock was a quiet bedroom community with great
schools, a train station, and enough friends on your street to have
a kickball game every day of the week until the street lights came
on. At just 11 years old we jumped on buses and headed to the
city or the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey—the mall
of malls back then—without a worry in the world. Even if it was
dangerous to hang out unchaperoned at our young age, we didn’t
know it. Even better, our parents didn’t know it.

We’d go bowling, to the movies, roller skating at the rink,
and I don’t recall anyone checking up on us. Everywhere felt safe.

Excerpt from “Preface”:

Before I start boring you with the “thank yous” and the
“without so-and-so this book could not have been possible” crap,
let me tell you some facts. Everything I write is the truth to the
best of my recollection, including details such as events, dates,
and times, which countless hours of research will attest. Still,
there may be errors and omissions, so I’ll apologize for that in
advance.

There are so many great bands and solo artists that are not
mentioned in this book or barely mentioned, but I thank you for
contributing to the era and particularly our club, Circus-Circus,
later The Circus. I would also like to thank all rock clubs wherever
they are or were in America, and around the world. You were
and still are the rock and roll heroes of our generation.
